Contest Rules & Regulations:
- Our Goal: The goal of the contest is to provide unsigned music artists with the opportunity for increased worldwide exposure.
- The Winner’s song will be included in the soundtrack of the next as yet untitled version of iMP: Surf the Music (the “Game”).
- Winners will also share in any net revenues received by Koolhaus from sales of the Game.
- There is no entry fee to partake in the Contest.
- By entering the contest you agree to the Rules and Regulations of the contest outlined below.

The following must accompany each entry, uploaded to our site by the cut off time and date for each round:
- Entry form: Complete the online entry form by clicking the link at the bottom of this page. By completing the form, you agree to all Contest Rules and Regulations. If a musical group, the person submitting the entry form on behalf of the group is responsible for insuring that all members of the group are in agreement with all Contest Rules and Regulations and takes full responsibility on behalf of the group.
- Audio file: Each audio entry must be uploaded to our site and be in MP3 stereo or mono, format. Koolhaus is not responsible for faulty uploads of MP3 file entries. If your entry is corrupted, distorted or not in MP3 format, Koolhaus may reject your entry.
- Typed lyric sheet: Please upload to our site in PDF format along with your entry and include English translations if applicable. Lyrics are not required for instrumental entries.
- One page bio sheet (English translation if applicable), double spaced, in PDF format listing band members names and contact information, website, blog, recording history, representation, contact information, fan groups (if any).

Entrants may enter only one song for the entire contest. The entry should be fully mixed, edited, stereo or mono and no longer than 5 minutes in length and in MP3 format.

Each entry must be the entrant’s original work and not infringe on any other work. Remixes of existing songs (unless your own) will not be accepted.

Early submission is encouraged, as early entries will be posted longer on the contest website, thereby allowing increased exposure and potentially more fan votes.

There is no charge for entering the contest. In fact, the winners may share in potential revenues from the iTunes store sales of the Game as outlined below.

Winner’s retain all copyrights in their works. Koolhaus only requires a non exclusive license to include the winner’s songs in the Game as further outlined below.

If the submission has lyrics; profanity, objectionable language or political statements of any kind will cause the entry to be rejected.

Koolhaus reserves the right to reject any entry for any reason and is not required to provide any reasons for said rejection.

The contest is open to any unsigned artist whether solo or a group and from any musical genre. The definition of “unsigned” is the following:
- The band (whether solo or a member of a group) can not previously or currently have or are about to sign a contract, whether verbal or in writing with either one or both of a
- Record company or a Music publishing company. Bands that have previously self published or have had independent releases are eligible to enter the contest.

Employees of Koolhaus, their families, subsidiaries, and affiliates are not eligible.

There may be as many as four preliminary rounds of band submissions with fan voting approximately every three weeks on the dates and times posted on our website. Dates are subject to change.

Each round will have twenty five (25) bands moving to the final round of one hundred (100) as determined by fan votes each round.

Fan votes will determine which twenty (20) bands out of the one hundred (100) will move to the final round.

Ten (10) first place winners will be decided by Koolhaus from the twenty (20) semi finalists.

The top ten (10) winners, as determined by Koolhaus, will be included in the soundtrack of the next version of the Game on iPhone, iPod Touch and other platforms as determined by Koolhaus. The timing of said release of the Game shall be purely determined by Koolhaus and at the discretion of Koolhaus.

Each of the ten (10) winners will receive a revenue share of one (1%) percent of the net revenues as received by Koolhaus from sales of the Game on the iTunes store under terms and conditions outlined further herein and in the Agreement (see "fine print" below). No payments of any other kind will be made to winners. Costs of developing and marketing the Game will be deducted from net revenues prior to making any payments to winners. Any withholding taxes or other monies required to be deducted by law shall be remitted by Koolhaus to the appropriate government agency and deducted from any payments owing the winner. No revenues will be paid from the current version of the game called iMP: Surf the Music or any other versions of the game that do not include the winner's song.

Koolhaus makes no representations or warranties that the Game will sell sufficient quantities on the iTunes store to generate revenues for the contest Winners. Sales of the Game will be purely determined by market forces not controlled by Koolhaus. Nor does Koolhaus make any representations or warranties that the Game will be available on the iTunes store as availability is purely determined by Apple. By entering the contest, winners agree that no revenues shall be paid by Koolhaus for free or promotional copies of the Game as are normally made available on the iTunes store.

Koolhaus will select the final ten (10) winners. Audio tracks will be judged based on composition, lyrics (where applicable), melody, originality. quality of performance, production values and suitability for the Game. In the event of co-winners (i.e. the band is a group) the division of prizes is the responsibility of the winners.

The fine print.
Please read carefully before submitting your entry. Winners will be notified by mail, email, and/or phone and must sign and return a non exclusive licensing agreement and affidavit (the Agreement) of eligibility/recording rights/publicity release/revenue sharing within 14 days of notification. The Agreement will state that the winner’s song is an original work and that he/she holds all rights to the song contained therein. The Agreement will also state that the winner allows Koolhaus to alter their audio song in order for the song to function within the Game (commonly called "Moral Rights"). Winners should review iMP: Surf the Music, either the free and paid version currently available on iTunes, to determine the potential changes required of their songs to function properly within the Game. Winners must also provide Koolhaus, within 14 days of notification and at winner’s own cost, with all audio samples, audio stems and midi files utilized in the winning song to be incorporated in the soundtrack of the Game. The Agreement will include details outlined in the above Contest Rules and Regulations including revenue sharing, song and audio recording master licensing and other terms necessary for Koolhaus to include the Winner’s song in the Game and distribute the Game worldwide. False/inaccurate information and failure to return the Agreement, audio recording samples, stems and midi files within 14 days of notification will result in immediate disqualification and an alternate winner will be selected. Winners under the age of 18 must have their Agreement countersigned by a parent or legal guardian. The Agreement will be subject to verification by Koolhaus and its agents. Entry into the contest constitutes permission to use the winners’ names, voices, and likenesses for future publicity and advertising purposes without additional compensation.

By entering the contest all participants agree that the decision of the judges (Koolhaus) is final.
